PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an amphoteric polymer from which a coating film having appropriate hardness and flexibility and reduced adhesiveness can be obtained. SOLUTION: The amphoteric polymer (A) has a constitutive unit represented by general formula (1), wherein, R<SP>1</SP>is a hydrogen atom, a methyl group or an ethyl group; R<SP>2</SP>is a 1-6C alkylene group, R<SP>3</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>are each a 1-6C alkyl group; R<SP>4</SP>is a 1-3C alkylene group; Q is an oxygen atom or -NH-; and Z is -COO or -SO<SB>3</SB>.
