An electric vehicle, such as a golf car or utility vehicle, is provided with an electric motor 12 that provides dynamic braking for the vehicle. The vehicle drivetrain is provided with a limited slip differential 16 in order to prevent output shafts 18,20 from turning freely when traction is lost. The limited slip differential 16 is typically provided between two rear wheels 22,24. The limited slip differential 16 may comprise a ring gear 42 driven from the electric motor 12 by an intermediate shaft 14. A central processing unit 28 receives signals from an accelerator pedal sensor 30 and a brake pedal sensor 32, and controls driving and dynamic braking of the electric motor 12. The invention can minimize damage to lawns when the vehicle is turning. |
