METHOD OF COMPRESSING IMAGE SIGNAL AND APPARATUS THEREFOR

A method of compressing an image signal and a device thereof are provided to have a minimum overhead information even when serving a compression with more efficient than a DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform). A row and column exchange unit(110) performs a partial exchange between the rows and the columns of a DCT transformation matrix. A DCT unit(120) performs a DCT of an image signal for compressing by using the DCT transformation matrix in which a partial exchange as described above. An image compression unit(130) compresses a transformed image signal as described above. A control unit(140) applies multiple values to an angle parameter, and repetitively operates the row and column exchange unit, the DCT transform unit, and the image compression unit. The control unit selects an angle parameter corresponding to the most high compression ratio.
