The invention provides a method for enhancing bone formation, inhibiting osteoclastic differentiation and/or activating osteoblastic differentiation whereby to manage, treat or achieve prophylayxis of bone disease which comprises administering to a human or animal subject suffering from, or susceptible to bone disease a therapeutically or prophylactically effective amount of a lanthanum compound.
