A fringe field type liquid crystal display device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to prevent the color mixing fault caused by mixing the colors around a data line by making a common electrode on the data line overlapped with a pixel electrode. The first substrate including a pixel is formed. A gate electrode and a gate line(217) are formed on the first substrate. The first insulating layer is formed in the first substrate. A data line is formed on the first substrate. A pixel electrode(218) of the box shape which electrically connects to a drain electrode is formed in a pixel region. The second insulating layer is formed on the first substrate. A common electrode(208) is formed in the whole pixel parts of the first substrate. The first substrate and the second substrate are combined.
