An apparatus and a method for image retouching in digital image processing device are provided to easily view and compare an original image with various retouched image having selected effects by displaying the original image and the retouched images on a more user interface. In a playback mode, while images stored in a storage(37) are reproduced, if a user selects an image edit menu for an arbitrary image, a video copy generator(39-1) produces a plurality of copy images which the selected size of image is reduced. If the production of a video copy is completed, an image effect application unit(39-2) applies predetermining effects to each copy of generated image. A control unit(39-4) put the copy image with a reduced size at a center. The control unit puts copy images with various effects around the current image. The control unit receives a copy image with selected effect by a user. The control unit controls the image effect application unit in order to transform the current copy image into an image with the effect.
