A patio door assembly is provided, including a slidable door panel 1 in a door frame 2. The panel 1 has a blocking member 9, which projects into a clearance 7 between the door panel 1 and the door frame, thus limiting the upward movement of the panel in the frame. The door may have two blocking members, preferably situated on either end of the door. The blocking member may be a straight metal plate but also could be bent in a variety of configurations (Figure 4). A method of retrofitting a sliding patio door with a blocking member is also disclosed. The blocking member prevents a burglar or other intruder from lifting the sliding door panel into the clearance gap and then removing the door panel by pivoting it out of the plane of the frame. |
