Disclosed is a modified liquid epoxy resin having low viscosity and high performance, which is obtained by reacting a mixture of a bisphenol and a phenol aralkyl resin with an epihalohydrin. In this connection, the bisphenol is preferably bisphenol F. More preferably, the bisphenol has a bifunctional form purity as determined by gel permeation chromatography at UV 254 nm of not less than 95% by area, from the aspect of fluidity. Furthermore, the mixture of a bisphenol and a phenol aralkyl resin contains the phenol aralkyl resin at a ratio of 10-70% by mass.
