A data conversion method and a data conversion device, a data recording device, a data reproducing device, and a computer program are provided to perform high speed format conversion by converting files through obtaining necessary information for conversion from the selected files. A data conversion method comprises: a step in which a data input part inputs AVCHD(Advanced Video Codec High Definition) format data; and a step in which a format conversion part produces playback control information according to a BDAV(Blue-Ray Disc Audio Visual) format and produces the conversion playback control information file and BDAV format data consisting of the non- converted stream file without performing conversion processing to the stream file included in the input AVCHD format data.
