A negative electrode for lithium rechargeable battery is provided to show high capacity for charging and discharging, excellent efficiency of charging and discharging and long cycle life for charging and discharging while having an even discharging curve. A negative electrode for lithium rechargeable battery comprises an active material layer and a current collector wherein the active material layers are laminated. The active material layer contains: a metal-carbon composite-based active material having one or more active materials and carbon-based active materials selected among metals or metallic oxide; graphite particles whose whole or some part of surface is coated with resin; and a binder combining the active materials and graphite particles. A lithium rechargeable battery has an electrode assembly wherein the negative electrode, a separator and positive electrode are laminated and a case accommodating the electrode assembly.
