A backlight unit and a driving method for maintaining white balance and improving image quality are provided to maintain white balance and prevent the degradation of image quality even though the brightness difference of each block is great. A brightness modulation part(41) uses video data. Each block of LED array generates proper luminance. A color modulator(43) controls the red, green and blue of the LED array according to the color sensor signal. The color sensor signal is sensed from the color sensor. A switch(44) is controlled by the switch control signal of a switch control part(42). A temperature modulator(45) produces the temperature modulated signal according to ambient temperature. A mixing part reflects the temperature modulated signal and color modulated signal to each luminance modulated signal. A PWM generating unit produces the PWM signal according to each output signal of the mixing part. The PWM generating unit supplies the PWM signal to the LED driver. |
