A vehicle mounted device comprising a connection 7 that is connected to an external device such as a portable music player, a browser button 27A to start a process of searching pieces of content, such as music tracks, stored in the external device, a content list acquisition section that when the browser button is operated acquires from the external device a content list having a hierarchical structure. A storage section (33) stores the acquired content list. A rotary encoder button 26 can be rotated to select an item from a list and pushed to move to a lower level of the hierarchy. A third or back button 25 changes what is displayed to a higher level of the menu. A LED or light emitting control section (42) performs operation guidance to prompt the user to do the next operation by changing the light emitting state of the second button when the first button is pressed. The interface to the external device may be USB and the LED may blink. |
