Disclosed is a drive unit (10) for a gear mechanism, comprising a multipart housing (12), an electrical driving motor (18) that is provided with an armature shaft (22) and an armature (24), and a gear mechanism (20), especially a worm gear unit, which is mounted downstream from the driving motor (18) and is effectively connected thereto via the armature shaft (22). The driving motor (18) can be mounted into a first housing part (14) in a radial direction relative to the armature shaft (22) and is accommodated exclusively by said first housing part (14) during assembly.
