An inertia-operated automatic brake control apparatus comprising a shaft 3, having means such as the rubber ring member 39 whereby it may be driven from one wheel of the vehicle, an inertia fly-wheel 6 pivotally mounted between stops (not shown) carried by the shaft 3 and fly-wheel 6, a casing 1 enclosing the shaft 3 and fly-wheel 6 and supporting at one end a bearing 2 for the shaft 3, a further shaft bearing 4, with the casing 1, being electrically insulated as by means of members 17 and 31, both from the shaft and the casing, there are also provided a pair of rotating contacts of which one 24, as shown in Fig. 4, is supported by the fly-wheel 6 and the other 23 by the insulated bearing so as to rotate with the shaft and make contact upon relative movement between the shaft and fly-wheel. The construction shown provides a brake controller of the type specified adapted to be manufactured from simple members by mass production at low cost and simple to mount and adjust. The bearing 2 has an external splined surface held in position by having the boss of the casing 1 swaged round it, so as to allow the bush 2 to swivel.. Such a construction allows fairly wide tolerance to be accepted for the machined parts.
