The escalator has a set of steps or pallets, a chain for driving the steps or pallets, and chain wheels (2, 3) around which the chain partially rotates. The chain starting from the chain wheels forms a top strand (5) and a bottom strand (6). A polygonal compensation unit is provided for polygonal compensation of the movement of one of the chain wheels. Effective lever arms (16, 17) of the chain on one of the chain wheels in the top strand are equal to effective lever arms (16`, 17`) of the chain on one of the chain wheels in the bottom strand. |
