<p>The method involves providing a separation between a plate/form cylinder (1) and a blanket cylinder (2) and/or sheet guiding cylinder (4) in a contact/disconnection point (13). A print end of a print/varnishing plate is detached from a printing rail. The cylinder (1) is rotated for discharging the plate from a printing plate exchanging position along a rotating/conveying direction to a plate exchange device (10). An effect of force is lifted to a force effect position before a passage of a lead edge of the print/varnishing plate that is detached from a beginning of a lead edge rail. An independent claim is also included for a device for exchanging a printing plate on a sheet material processing machine.</p>
