Animal feedstuff contains, as a growth-promoting factor, a small proportion of 5-nitro-2- furfuraldehyde-2 - (2-hydroxyethyl) semicarbazone of the formula: <FORM:0905277/I/1> preferably in the proportion of 1 to 10 parts by weight added to 100,000 parts of feedstuff. An example is directed to a comparison between the feed efficiencies of chickens when fed (a, control) a basal diet including 5-nitro-2-furfuraldehyde semicarbazone and (b) the basal diet including 5-nitro-2-furfuraldehyde semicarbazone and, additionally, various amounts of 5-nitro-2- furfuraldehyde-2- (2-hydroxyethyl) semicarbazone. Other examples are concerned with the feed efficiencies of rats and swine. |
