Process for producing niobium suboxide

Production of niobium sub-oxide involves reacting niobium dioxide with niobium metal in the presence of hydrogen. Production of niobium sub-oxide (NbO x) involves reacting niobium dioxide (NbO y), where y is 1.8-2.1, with a stoichiometric quantity of niobium metal in the presence of hydrogen, where for NbO x, x is 0.7-1.3. Independent claims are included for; (1) A niobium sub-oxide produced by the above method; and (2) A capacitor comprising an anode formed by sintering a powder of the above niobium sub-oxide.
