A vacuum cleaner comprises a filter 100 moveably mounted within a dust collection means 101. An annular collar (200, fig 2) is provided at a region of the dust collection means 101 and arranged such that the filter 100 is capable of being moved relative to the collar (200, fig 2) via a push and pull or plunger-like motion to and from the dust collection means 101. Through this motion, the external surface of the filter 100 is wiped clean by the annular collar (200, fig 2). Scraped off hair, fluff and debris matter collected on the filter's 100 external surface is raked off by the collar (200, fig 2). To enhance removal of the debris attached to the surface of the filter 100, the filter 100 is tapered so that it is conical or dome shaped. The collar (200, fig 2) is preferably made from a flexible elastic material such as rubber, and may be removable from or integral with the dust collection means 101. Guide means are preferably provided and are configured to cause the filter 100 to rotate in a screw like fashion, as it is moved in and out of the dust collection means 101. The filter 100 preferably forms part of a cyclone unit, which may include multiple cyclones. |
