A method and an apparatus for transmitting an uplink control channel response channel are provided to increase downlink power efficiency by transmitting ACK/NACK information for a PDSCH(Physical Downlink Shared Channel). The number of control channel elements which a downlink control channel includes or the number of resource blocks which the downlink shared channel includes are determined(602). A demodulation success state is determined by demodulating the downlink control channel and the downlink shared channel(603). If the demodulation of the downlink control channel is succeeded and the demodulation of the downlink shared channel is failed, the downlink control channel success information is transmitted through an uplink control channel response channel as a response channel resource previously mapped in the control channel element or resource block(605).
