The use of 4H-1-benzopyran-4-one derivatives of the formula (I), preferably of flavopiridol, for the production of a pharmaceutical for the inhibition of smooth muscle cells proliferation which is desirable in the treatment of smooth muscle cell-rich vascular lesions, lesions after balloon injury after balloon angioplasty and in the treatment of patients after stent implantation.
