<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus and method capable of reducing a capacity of an image memory necessary when block matching is performed between two screens. <P>SOLUTION: Block matching is performed between a target block set in a target screen and a plurality of reference blocks set in a search range set in a reference screen, and a motion vector between the target screen and the reference screen is detected. Image data in the reference screen are stored in a first storage part by compressing the data by the block in which data for one screen are divided into several blocks. From among the compressed image data of the reference screen, image data in a block unit including a matching processing range corresponding to the search range are read from the first storage part, expansion decoded, and stored in a second storage part. From among the expansion decoded image data in the second storage part, image data in the reference block are extracted and a correlation value with the target block is computed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT |
