<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing unit efficiently making encoding without degrading image quality. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid display device is equipped with an RGB data transmitting circuit 1, an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) source driver 2, and an LCD panel 3. The LCD source driver 2 has an RGB data receiving circuit 4, an ABD-BTC encoding circuit 5, a memory 6, an ABD-BTC decoding circuit 7, and an LCD driving circuit 8. A pixel block is made in a small size of 2×2 pixels. Thus, a simple circuit calculate an average value in the pixel block. Especially, a divider tending to have a large hardware scale can be comprised of only a 1/3 multiplier.
