PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of reducing shock when the imaging apparatus falls. SOLUTION: The collapsible imaging apparatus having a function of extending or retracting a zoom lens unit includes a fall detection means (#104) detecting that the imaging apparatus falls and zoom lens unit position control means (#106 to #115) moving the current position of the zoom lens unit to a position having strong resistance to shock, when it is detected that the imaging apparatus falls.
