PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display element which reduces the interaction between a reverse tilt domain which occurs in a pixel, and a reverse tilt which occurs in a pixel corresponding to an adjacent pixel electrode, improves inferior image quality due to lateral electric field, and obtains an image of higher quality, and to provide a projection liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display element includes: two substrates which face each other; a liquid crystal layer arranged between the two substrates; a plurality of pixel electrodes which are arranged on the mutually facing surfaces of the two substrates to form a matrix-like pixel; and alignment films formed on the two substrates to align the liquid crystal of the liquid crystal layer in a prescribed direction. In addition, a pixel unit 50 is a three-pixel unit comprising a first pixel 51, a second pixel 52 and a third pixel 53, which are formed by red, green and blue, respectively, and the pixel electrodes have the shapes like formed by cutting the end parts of one or two pixel units of the three pixel units.
