The arrangement has a light source (22) emitting light into a laminar elongate transparent light guide (80). The light source is decoupled for illuminating a retroflecting license plate arranged before or behind the arrangement. The light guide has light decoupling structures (90) arranged within a region of a rear side light passage surface of the guide. The light decoupling structure has a set of hollow columnar structures, where longitudinal axes are oriented perpendicular to the light passage surface, and lateral surfaces of the structures are oriented perpendicular to the passage surface.
