PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an n-type Mg intermetallic compound (Mg<SB>2</SB>X) which is nonpoisonous and has excellent conductivity. SOLUTION: Disclosed is an n-type Mg intermetallic compound(Mg<SB>2</SB>X) having an inverse fluorite structure and expressed by general formula: Mg<SB>2</SB>X (X denotes one kind or a plurality of elements selected from the group 4 elements, Si, Ge and Sn, and includes at least either Si or Ge), and P is added as a donor additive. The compound can be produced by using the one obtained by beforehand adding P to Si and/or Ge as an element(s) composing X as the raw materials for the above element(s) and regulating a production temperature to a temperature lower than the melting point of the element(s) admixed with P.
