PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an edge treater of a curtain coater which enables the smooth treatment of a curtain coater. SOLUTION: This edge treater has the following two components: (1) a pair of edge guides 2, for inhibiting a "neck-in" phenomenon, which are arranged in the way to interpose both end parts of a coating material curtain "c" flowing downward and also, have a fine groove 2di through which a lubricating fluid "f" flows, formed in the inside surface of the edge guide 2. Thus the edge guides 2 can apply a coating material "t" to the upper surface of a rapidly traveling web "w". Besides, the edge guides 2 can diminish the hindrance of a flow due to viscosity inherent between the coating material "t" and the surface of the guide 2 by the lubricating fluid "f". (2) A pair of bending rods 3 which are arranged upstream from a landing spot of the coating material curtain "c" on the web "w" and also, in a truncated chevron shape, i.e. opening outwardly to the lower side, and bend both end parts of the traveling web "w" in contact with both end parts of the web "w". The width of the coating material curtain "c" is smaller than the width of the web "w", and a mixture "k" of the coating material "t" and the lubricating fluid "f" scatters laterally, at the moment both end parts of the coating material curtain "c" lands the bent parts of the web "w".
