PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-propelled type large intestine endoscope for which a section where a guide hook is installed is made as short as possible so that the flexibility of the elastic section may not be spoiled. SOLUTION: This self-propelled type large intestine endoscope includes a tube-like flexible inserting section 15 which is inserted in the large intestine, and an endless belt 17 which is arranged in a circulation pathway along the external side and the internal side of a part of the tube wall of the flexible inserting section 15. The endless belt 17 travels on the outside of the flexible inserting section tube wall while being supported by a guide hook 39 which is arranged on the external surface of the flexible inserting section 15 at the distal end section on the external side of the flexible inserting section 15, and passes through a guide pipe 43 which is arranged on the internal side of the flexible inserting section tube wall at sections other than the distal end section. The length of the circulation pathway at the distal end section on the external side of the flexible inserting section 15 is 10 to 60 cm. Thus, since the section in which the endless belt 17 travels on the outside of the tube wall of the flexible inserting section 15 is made as short as possible, the flexible inserting section 15 can be inserted while keeping its flexibility.
