PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new inhibitor protein (I-TRAF), nucleic acid encoding them, methods for their recombinant production, and their use in screening assays and as pharmaceuticals, in relation to the inhibitors of tumor necrosis factor receptor associated factor-(TRAF) mediated signal transduction. SOLUTION: The present invention relates to an assay for identifying molecules mediated by association with the cell proteins and the TRAF signal transduction comprising (A) a process for incubating the mixture containing the isolated I-TRAF polypeptide and TRAF with a candidate molecule, and (B) a process for detecting the molecular potential of the prescribed candidate-emitting TRAF from the complex formed with the I-TRAF.
