<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems of two types of apparatuses (bar feeder and portal loader/unloader). <P>SOLUTION: In an automatic feeder for automatically loading workpieces or half-finished workpieces onto a machine tool (particularly a CNC lathe) and automatically unloading finished goods, a universal automatic feeder is configured so as to have a portal structure 50 provided with an integrated feeder 20 for loading bars through behind a lathe spindle.
