PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tripod type constant velocity universal joint which is reduced in size and weight while keeping the strength of the root portion. SOLUTION: The tripod type constant velocity universal joint is equipped with an outside joint member having a truck groove axially extending and formed in a circumferential trisected position of the inner periphery and capable of being connected with a first rotary shaft, an inside joint member 5 consisting of a boss 3 capable of being connected with a second rotary shaft and a leg shaft 4 radially projected from the circumferential trisected position of the boss 3, and a roller rotatably attached to each leg shaft 4 through a plurality of needlelike rollers 6 and housed in the truck groove. The radius of curvature of the root portion 8 connecting the boss 3 and strut shaft 4 in a recessed arc shape is gradually reduced from a joint circumferential section A to a joint axial section B of the root portion 8.
