PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To project and display a virtual image indicating the same inter-vehicle distance as that in case of a real vehicle on a windshield for easily grasping a preset inter-vehicle distance and improving viewability during traveling. SOLUTION: An inter-vehicle distance setting and displaying device comprises a traveling speed setting operation part 2 for setting the traveling speed set value of a driver's own vehicle, an inter-vehicle distance setting operation part 3 for setting the set value of the inter-vehicle distance between a preceding vehicle and the driver's own vehicle, a storage part 4 for storing a table 41 indicating the relation of the preliminary determined traveling speed set value and inter-vehicle distance set value and storing a virtual image data comprising the size of the real image of the preceding vehicle which a driver views from a driver's seat in the inter-vehicle distance set value corresponding to the traveling speed set value stored in the table 41, a control part 5 for receiving the traveling speed set value set at the traveling speed setting operation part 2 and the inter-vehicle distance set value set at the inter-vehicle distance setting operation part 3 and reading out and outputting a corresponding virtual image data by referring to the table 41 stored in the storage part 4, and a display part 6 for projecting and displaying the image of the virtual image data outputted from the control part 5 on the windshield of the driver's own vehicle.
