A system and method for optimizing multipart responses within a server­client protocol through additional header information provided to signal a multipart response. Server (146) determines whether a multipart response is applicable and generates a single part response having multipart indication (304) to signal client (102) that a multipart response will follow. Client (102) may then submit a subsequent request for the multipart response by providing expectation (404) within request header (402).
