PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection method for a process cartridge for conducting a functional test of the process cartridge without disassembling it, specifying the failed components, and reusing the paper and toner that are to be used in the functional test so as to prevent the occurrence of an object to be disposed according to the inspection. SOLUTION: In this inspection method, a photosensitive body drum or a belt of the process cartridge detachably mounted is charged with electricity and then is exposed to light, toner is made to adhere on the photosensitive body drum or the belt, after exposure to light, and a toner image of the photosensitive body drum or the belt is imaged by an imaging means, to determine the quality of the process cartridge, based on the toner image on the assumption that the used process cartridge be inspected without disassembling it. In this inspection method, the imaging operation of the toner image by the imaging means, including electrical charging to development to imaging and to cleaning is performed, while the photosensitive body drum is rotated several times, and the toner image is analyzed, to specify the component having defects, based on the results of the analysis.
