PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing adjusting device capable of reducing leak of working fluid with a simple structure and accurately controlling phase of a driven shaft. SOLUTION: A boss part 51 of a vane rotor 50 includes an outer wall tapered surface 56 inclined to a shaft. A housing 11 includes an inner wall tapered surface 37 abutting on an outer wall tapered surface 56 of the boss part 51. Thrust force acts on a housing 11 from the vane rotor 50 by interaction of the outer wall tapered surface 56 and the inner wall tapered surface 37. Consequently, the vane rotor 50 presses the housing 11, and axial width d of a clearance 21 formed between the housing 11 and end surface 57 of the vane rotor 50 at an axial direction side when the vane rotor 50 presses the housing 11 is kept constant. As a result, the clearance 21 is satisfactorily blocked by a seal member 60 provided at the end surface 57 of the vane rotor 50 at the axial direction side when the vane rotor 50 presses the housing 11.
