PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately perform abnormality determination of a valve timing variable mechanism. SOLUTION: An engine ECU executes a program including a step (S102) executing OBD processing when the executing condition of the OBD processing of the valve timing variable mechanism is approved (YES in S100), a step (S104) guarding a lead angle command value by a lower limit at 7°C CA and more, and a step (S108) releasing the lower limit guard of the lead angle command value when the OBD processing is finished (YES in S106).
