PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool made of WC-based cemented carbide, capable of achieving excellent chipping resistance in intermittent heavy cutting work in which large mechanical impact loads are added repeatedly. SOLUTION: The cutting tool is made of WC-based cemented carbide having an average composition of 5-13% Co, 0.02-0.2% S, carbide-converted values of 5-20% TiC, 2-20% for one kind or two kinds of TaC and NbC, all in mass%, with WC for the rest. Between the surface and the inner side, Ti is included as a metal component, as well as Ta and/or Nb. As a non-metal component to be chemically combined with the metal component, a dendritic carbosulfide precipitation phase including C and S exists. On the surface side, the dendritic carbosulfide precipitation phase does not exists, but it is composed of a zone with an S content of less than 0.02 mass%. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
