摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner in which the synchronization can be precisely detected and an image forming apparatus in which a high quality image is formed at a high speed. SOLUTION: Luminous fluxes emitted from the respective light emitting parts of a light source 14 are linear polarized light and the angle between the polarized direction and the direction corresponding to a main scanning direction is smaller than the angle between the polarized direction and the direction corresponding to a subscanning direction. Thus, the light transmissivity increases at the peripheral part of the respective lenses. Namely, the light quantity loss of the luminous flux directed from the polygon mirror 13 to the synchronization detection sensor 19 on the optical faces of the respective scanning lenses is smaller than the light quantity loss of the luminous flux directed from the polygon mirror 13 to the photoreceptor drum 1030 on the optical faces of the respective scanning lenses.
