PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly pure metallocene compound prepared in a high yield, and to provide a method for efficiently producing the same. SOLUTION: This method for producing the metallocene compound represented by general formula: CpVOCl<SB>2</SB>, comprising reacting a reaction mixture containing a vanadocene compound represented by general formula: Cp<SB>2</SB>VCl<SB>2</SB>(Cp is at least one of cyclopentadienyl group, a substituted cyclopentadienyl group, an indenyl group, a substituted indenyl group, a fluorenyl group, and a substituted fluorenyl group) with a chlorine gas, is characterized in that the residue of a solvent having been used in the previous process is limited to≤1 wt.% of a solvent used in the chlorination.
