PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide coated newsprint paper for offset printing that has a high brightness, opacity after printing, and sufficient strength. SOLUTION: The coated newsprint paper for offset printing is obtained by coating the surface of base paper with a surface treatment agent containing a pigment and an adhesive. The surface treatment agent is applied to base paper so that the amount of the pigment coated in the coated newsprint paper for offset printing is 0.1-1.0 g/cm<SP>2</SP>per side. The pigment has an oil absorption of 80-150 cc/100g and an average particle diameter of 0.5-2.0μm. Since brightness, opacity after printing and strength of paper are increased, the coated newsprint paper for offset printing is used in a high-quality multicolor printing such as highly precise printing and high color printing using a rotary printing press of cold offset type.
