The hydropneumatic impulse power screwdriver has a hydropneumatic drive (2) provided over an electro motor (4) with power for generating a torsional impulse. A drive shaft (1) is coupled in a bolted connection for transferring the torsional impulse. A rotary input type encoder is provided in the drive shaft. A control unit (6) disconnects the drive and the electro motor, when the rotating angle of the drive shaft coupled the bolted connection during the torsional impulse is smaller than a given threshold value. An independent claim is included for a method for controlling a hydropneumatic impulse power screwdriver.
