PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device which prevents image quality from deteriorating by adjusting reflected light emitted to an original from a backside thereof by adjusting light transmitting the original to the backside opposite to a reading surface of the original during reading the original. SOLUTION: According to the image reading device, a dimming control part adjusts light that transmits a dimming member by controlling the dimming member during reading the original. The dimming control part can adjust the transmission and reflection of part of light transmitting the original in light emitted to the original by adjusting the light transmitting the dimming member. Thus, reflected light which transmits the original and is emitted from the backside of the original can be adjusted, so that the problem of causing the deterioration of image quality can be solved.
