PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide equipment for detoxifying material polluted with an organic halogen compound in which maintenance frequency can be reduced, and to provide a method for the same which can suppress a deterioration of process efficiency. SOLUTION: The equipment comprises a working space exposed to a gas containing an organic halogen compound, and a light source illuminating the working space. The material polluted with an organic halogen compound is detoxified in the working space. The light source emits light in which the light intensity in a wavelength range of 380 nm or shorter is 1% or less of the visible light intensity in a wavelength range longer than 380 nm.
