PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for properly making a transition of an operation mode of an engine to a second mode of using second fuel from a first operation mode of using first fuel. SOLUTION: This method for making the transition of the operation mode of the engine to an operation mode of using hydrogen from an operation mode of using the second fuel, comprises a process of substantially increasing the air volume during the transition by starting an increase in the air volume when starting the transition, a process of starting supply of the hydrogen to the engine when starting the transition, and a process of reducing a supply quantity of the second fuel to the engine when starting the transition.
