PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal spraying method where the surface of a base material is subjected to roughening and cleaning combined with a specified treatment means before thermal spraying, thus the base material and the obtained sprayed coating have excellent adhesion even under severe conditions. SOLUTION: Regarding the thermal spraying method where a sprayed coating having excellent adhesion is formed on the surface of a metal base material, the surface of a metal base material is subjected to blast treatment, next, the surface of the metal base material is subjected to reduced pressure arc cleaning in a state where external force is acted on the surface of the metal base material from the normal direction, and is subsequently subjected to thermal spraying treatment.
