PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and methods for intrusion protection in a safety instrumented process control systems. SOLUTION: An exemplified method for protecting a safety instrumented system comprises receiving legitimate information from a component part of the process control system, when the legitimate information is intended for delivery to the safety instrumented system; identifying whether a signature at least substantially matches the legitimate information; and if it is identified that the signature at least substantially coincides with the legitimate information, then prevention of the legitimate information from being forwarded to the safety instrumented system.
