PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a proper recovering operation for a liquid discharge head according to the status of use by the user. SOLUTION: In a printer, a recovering operation determination part changes the settings of flushing and purge according to the status of use detected by a use status detection part. When the frequency of on/off of a power supply is higher than a predetermined frequency (S102: YES), the recovering operation determination part so changes the settings that the recovering operation is not performed when the power supply is turned on (S103). When the number of printed sheets in a predetermined period is larger than a predetermined one (S108: YES), the settings are so changed that the recovering cycle is extended (S109). When mainly monochrome printing is performed (S104: YES) and mainly color printing is performed (S106: YES), the settings are so changed that the recovering cycles of a black ink and a color ink are extended a predetermined amount (S105, S107).
