PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of setting a power saving transition time that meets a use mode at a low cost. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an effective period setting means (user interface section 105) for setting an image formation request effective period that treats an image formation request as effective; a print requested number determination section 103 that determines whether a process for image formation was requested within the image formation request effective period or not; and a power saving control section 104 for exerting control such that if the determination is made that the process for image formation was requested during the image formation request effective period, a transition time is maintained, and if the process for image formation was not requested during the image formation request effective period, the transition time is altered by the altering means.
