PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain such a circuit constitution that a main CPU operates a display controller for controlling a display part, and to eliminate a display delay when a power source is turned on, and to enable displaying after being shifted to an energy-saving mode. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is provided with a sub display controller 112 that is operated independently from the main display controller 111 that is operated by the main CPU 101. The sub display controller 112 has a refreshing (data retransfer) function to access to a connected ROM 113 just after the power source is turned on, then, to continuously transmit a prescribed display picture to the display part 115. The refreshing function is made operable continuously from just ON to OFF of the power source, consequently, the display showing such as "Please wait a little", "In energy-saving" etc., is given even after a few seconds from the power-on to the startup of the main display controller 111 or even in a period after being shifted to the energy saving mode.
